cd -> mp3 software...

ok. a couple of years ago i converted a load of my cds into wma so i could listen to them on my computer, and at the time i just used WMP, and there were no problems cos all the cds were scratch-free.... however, i had to format the other day and stupidly forgot to copy my music onto another computer, so i'm left with no music, and the problem ive got is that some of my cds are a bit scratched, and i copied accross one, with wmp, to listen on my mp3 player, and the blips in the sound are really annoying... is there any software which has a better chance of ripping a better-quality stream, so that it sounds like it should do... (mm bit of a long post there about a simple request but still, wanted to justify myself ).

Try Exact Audio Copy (EAC), the srror correction on it is meant to be very good. It's one of th best for mp3's anyway

Exact Audio copy is excellent, but it does take a long time.

You could first try dbPowerAmp that does a good job, even with scratched CD's, I've been using it for several years now. It's the Converter file you want, Aux. module is good to have as well.

If no joy with that, EAC is probably your best bet.

I agree with the big nosed monkey above... cdex is the best ive used, cleanly made piece of software, user friendly, but if you want it allows you lots of control.

And another vote for CDex, been using it for about 4 years. A grand program so it is.
I've never found a cd it cant rip, if you know what i mean

notice that CDex, being LAME-powered by default, can also be set to use the alt-preset standard setup quite easily (under the encoder options, in the quality pulldown)

EAC is designed to rip crappy CDs, and I believe the error correction is far more reliable than on cdex. YMMV.

Not really im afraid, EAC is pretty much the best for making MP3s. Confirmed but a load of music nuts over on the hydrogen audio forums. Combined with Lame encoder and in 'secure' mode it is the best.

dbpoweramp is easy to use id recomend this as well does a good job with little fuss much better than musicmatch and the like
