Vista x64 MCE is a nightmare!

I installed a standard 32bit version of Vista Ultimate on one system and on my home system I installed X64

codecs for X64 are just bad, really bad, unstable, picky about certain movie files etc

the 32bit system plays everything just fine!

Just a heads up, for MCE do not install Vista X64! stick with the 32bit version.

    Which codecs?

x64's MCE worked fine for me when I briefly used it at home. The only reason I went back to XP was due to, again, Creative.

almost all of them but its the fact that a recent windows update removed all my codecs and also although the sound in movies etc works all the sounds for MCE have gone eg the MCE startup sound and the one when you flick between options. I have checked the play sounds box etc and still nothing.

I have Vista x86_64 running here, with all the main codecs running fine and smoothly.
    It is Inevitable.....

    doesn't 64-bit vista use 32-bit media player/codecs?

I have heard about something called 'Vista Codec Package' apparently has all the codecs you need; dont know if this exists but worth a blast.

    It does exist.

I personally just use the latest FFDShow Betas v1324. Plays everything without an issue.

To be honest I think I will do a full reinstall and give x64 one more shot.
