Indeed I did get it sorted out a long time ago. I ended up using Acronis Disk Director and it worked quite nicely.

...heh, you can't imagine my surprise when I saw this thread had a reply after nearly seven months. lol

    http://www.partition-tool.com/

EASEUS Partition Manager Home Edition V1.6.4

i just used easeus this morning on my dell laptop. it's got a 160gig HD with 4 partitions (as it came from the factory), a tiny EISA partition, the main partition, and two seperate 2/3gig ish partitions with the media thing and backup software. as my laptop is a spare machine and doesn't have anything important on it, i'd rather have the space to fill up with files, and reinstalling xp isn't a problem for me

i deleted the 2 & 3gig partitions and then resized the main partition (i actually deleted a lot of files from the main partition first as i thought that would speed things up), it's got a windows GUI, then it boots into DOS mode like norton ghost and does the business. it only took about 1 minute. presumably as it's just adding the spare space to the end of the main partition and doesn't have to merge and move files

i was googling about this the other day and came across the mention here, so i thought i'd mention my findings as it may help others. most of the other free programs seem to be DOS based and you can't get a free/legit/trial of partition magic to use for a one off

i'm going to try later and see if it can delete the 55mb partition on an old 40gig drive that originally came with a dell desktop, as those EISA partitions can't be moved in windows disc management

Partition Magic is best to resize the partitions , its quite easy to resize partition with it. You can see the full guide here http://www.techarena.in/guide/9502-r...tion-magic.htm , shareware version is available for free, but its shareware version covers all the basic features and far better than those useless partition utilities.

Necromancy is hearsay and an anathema.

I remember this thread, I was going to pitch in but directhex already solved the problem for the OP before dinner. </subtle hint>
