    Looking for Free / Very Cheap Flash Software

    Hiya everyone,
    I'm looking to get my hands on some free or cheap software that will let me have a go at making flash movies and games, mainly for newgrounds... now there are tonnes of members who submit flash on newgrounds, surly they can't all have paid $500 for Macromedia Flash? A google search didn't turn up any results, so i'm wondering if you guys could point me to software that will allow me to make games with Flash.

    Thanks a lot in advance - I've got a budget of around £30 if that will get me anything.

    AFAIK the Flash standard is owned by Macromedia, so unless they've licensed it to someone else (unlikely) then i think they are the only people who'll make the authoring software. its likely some/most (delete as applicable) of those people would have got it through the dreaded 'W' word.

    sometimes pc mags will give away old versions (v2 or v3) as freebies on cover cds, good for getting a start though.

    OK I'm not looking for the Macromedia version - i mean any software i can do the simple to kinda complex stuff with. I saw one piece of software for sale that could do flash for $30 for instance, but i don't think they sell it over here.

    As someone mentioned before. SWISH is very easy to master and pretty cheap if I recall. I have used when I needed simple animations done right away.

    macromedia have 30 day tiral period of flash mx 2004 if thats of any use. One thing i hate with programs like these is that their too expensive for people to just "try" out and see how it goes for a few months, and you cant really learn a huge amount with just a 30 day trial. Theres a lot of potential tallent being lost, simply because of the price i feel. Its the same with Photoshop, and other programs such as these.

    aswell as swish you could look at;

    zoomify
    swift3d

    tho idont know anything about them, i just saw them on a flash presentation

    Smile Re: Looking for Free / Very Cheap Flash Software

    Have your tried Express Animator (expressanimator.com) It seems to reasonably cheap. I have downloaded the free trial and find it quite easy to use. I have been using mainly for animations with bitmaps. It also has a skeletal animation thing which I haven't tried to use yet but I will probably try this week. There's a good example of a good animation done with this in the News section of their website.

    Anyway, that's just my suggestion!!!

    Thanks for the post, but I'm guessing he is sorted now as the question is over 4 years old
