Need to replace missing 64-bit Vista Ultimate disk

I bought Windows Vista Ultimate (Upgrade) from my university last fall, but it only came with one disk (the 32-bit one). After playing with Vista for a fewm onths, and having to recently reformat/re-install, I'd like to try the 64-bit edition. Problem is, I don't have the 64-bit disk, nor know anybody who has it. Where can I get the disk I should (rightfully) have?

Re: Need to replace missing 64-bit Vista Ultimate disk

Please note 64-Bit Edition DVD is not included in this package. Only the 32-Bit edition DVD is supplied in the box. Information on obtaining 64-Bit edition is included in this package.
I got that of Scan's website... looks like there should be some details somewhere in the package. Tried contacting MS?

Re: Need to replace missing 64-bit Vista Ultimate disk

My 'package' was just a soft slipcase with two stickers on it: one for the product bar code, and the other being the product key. The disk is authentic, though (laser-etched Genuine and all that). Question is, who do I even contact at MS?

    Windows Vista Alternate Media

That should be what you need. There will be a nominal charge for the media and delivery though.

Re: Need to replace missing 64-bit Vista Ultimate disk

It doesn't work. I get this message:

We're sorry, the following error(s) have occurred:
    No Offer Found

Likely because I have Ultimate and I should already have the disk, I figure.

Unless the cheeky buggers at your university gave you an OEM copy (which may be likely given the the packaging) in which case you're not entitled to a free upgrade!

Possible, I suppose. Bugger! I just want a 64-bit disk; if I need ot do something in 32-bit, I have XP!

That error is what I get when I try with my Ultimate OEM, so I suspect that this is what you have. A friend has the retail Home Premium upgrade which he obtained the 64 bit disc from that site with no issues.

Yeah, seems to me that that particular page is for requesting 64-bit disks if you bought Home, Home Premium, or Business only. THose of us that already have Ultimate, whether retail and with both disks, or OEM/academic with just one disk don't seem to benefit here.

    There's gotta be another way...

Re: Need to replace missing 64-bit Vista Ultimate disk

If you buy 32bit ultimate isn't the license valid for 64bit....? So technically you could borrow someone else's 64bit cd and install from that with your key?

Re: Need to replace missing 64-bit Vista Ultimate disk

You have an OEM copy. Your licence does not allow an upgrade to 64bit AFAIK

    Windows Vista: 64-bit Editions

If you bought Windows Vista Home Basic, Home Premium, or Business as a retail, packaged product, and you would like a DVD of 64-bit software media to install on your PC, please choose your language:

Well, crap. >.< Right now buying another OEM or retail disk is a bit outo f the budget at the moment. If nothing else, at least Windows 7 is right around the corner. Thanks anyways, guys (unless somebody knows something we don't ).

Anti-trust committee checks out Windows 7 | The Register

Microsoft has chalked 2010 as the year customers can expect Windows 7 to be released. But rumours have recently surfaced that suggest the firm, in the face of fierce criticism of the much-unloved Vista, could be planning to parachute the OS in as early as the second half of next year.
I wouldn't be surprised if betas started to appear late this / early next year.
Even assuming it isn't brought forward, 2010 is only 21 months away

Re: Need to replace missing 64-bit Vista Ultimate disk

MS have seen how the press treated vista, vrs how it treated other OS's which are dishing out smaller 'major' changes.

Apple merryily charge high fees for what are in essense service pack level changes to windows. My old favourate RISC OS used to do this under the excuse you needed new ROMs, but charging the amount they did was a tad unfair imo.

If they add to much code, its a security threat, too little, its nothing new, just a bloated os that offers nothing new over the old one.

I think MS will of realised this to a degree, and the next realease will be a minor tweak.

That my guess work based on what i know, not from my mates at MS.

Anyone willing to take bets that it will come out in 2010?
The only reason why it will come out that early if vista becomes another windows ME... imo it hasn't
