Question Vista - HDD in read only state. How do I change?

Just installed Vista on my new system which I built.
Wanted to save a Porsche wallpaper from the web onto my Hdd and it said it saved,
and when I looked in the folder it wasn't there.
Then tried saving the file to my external drive, and got the same result.

Checked out the web and found out that my drive is in read only mode,
though I didn't set it to this.

    1. Tried unchecking the read only box in the folder properties, and it keeps reverting back to checked.
    2. Changed ownership which it did, still no change.
    3. Updated the security privileges, and it still doesn't work.

Please direct me as to how I can change my drive to be writable.
    i.e save my Porsche wallpaper

Re: Vista - HDD in read only state. How do I change?

Seems like most people go with the disable UAC (User Account Control).
Not recommended by Microsoft, though if it's the only solution, then it's worth a try.

Find link to see how to disable this.
Disable User Account Control in Windows Vista
