Partition recovery

Hi folks, to cut a long story short, i deleted a partion on a WD 1tb usb drive whilst installing windows, duh!
What is the best software to recover it? Partition magic won't do it, and active@ takes an age to scan it.

I mean it deletes in seconds so surely there must be software that reverses the changes without having to scan the entire disk? There's about 380gb of data on it fyi.

Thanks in advance guys and gals.

The partiotion table is quite small (a few bytes) and deleting it is easy. Recreating the partition table requires scanning the disk to see where the file systems are actually located, and ttheir extent. This takes time, what ever tools you use. Be patient (and prepare for disappointment if you don't get all the data back - in that case a professional data recovery company might help - at a price)

Use the linux fdisk program to recreate the partition on said disk.

active@ in my experience is very good. Its worth the wait....although is the data on there really that important if you can't wait for one program to complete its task?

Re: Partition recovery

Thanks all for the replys.

No the data was not that important so i gave up in the end. Yeah Active@ looks pretty good but 540 mins to scan the drive and even longer to retrive the data, like i say, i gave up.

Cheers all.

I'm currently running GetDataBack on a 180Gb disk for a friend - it's been running for 2 days now and was at about 80% when I last checked. Patience is key.

Your a better man than i am! I just couldn't be bothered tbh, it was my own stupid fault anyway

All i lost was Tv shows and films, my music and Photos are far more important and they are on another usb drive that only gets plugged in for backing up.

Good luck with getdataback

Cheers - it'll be fine, but as I said these things take time.
