Are you running the full administrator account, or are you running fake administrator?

Re: full control of .dll files

why do you want to thou?

The reason is, this has been set so that its not trivial to move or rename them, even from you! (its the whole computer assuming users are morons at every turn. As today has once again been proving my belief that everyone is in fact a moron, i can't help but think their onto something).

just take ownership as admin, and you can do what you want.

Some Windows Vista functions may not work, or Windows Vista may stop responding

    Useful bit of help

Open the Start Menu, type cmd in the search box, and then press Ctrl+Shift+Enter to open cmd with Administrative rights. Type the following in the command prompt and press Enter:

    - net user administrator /active:yes

To assign a password to the Administrator account, type the following in the same command prompt and press Enter (replace "mypassword" with the desired password):

    - net user administrator mypassword

NB: replace mypassword with your desired password

However, adding the password to the Administrator account is a strongly recommended security measure. Do not forget that password.

    - Exit

    -------

Once this is done, just make your logon account a normal user, and if something doesn't work right, you can right click, run as Administrator and once you've entered the password you will be using a full admin. It's really important you don't use the machine as this admin account day to day, as it exposes all the computer to all kinds of nasty. The reason you would not be the admin as set under the control panel is that it removes the password prompt and replaces it with a "click to continue", it's personal preference really but I feel more secure having to enter a password than click a box.

The reason I call the mode you set the User Account panel "fake" is because there are some things it can't seem to do, it's more akin to "Power User" under XP than Administrator.

Means you haven't launched the command prompt with admin privilages. As it states, press Ctrl+Shift+Enter (don't press enter first either )

Re: full control of .dll files

Very strange! Not had this fail to activate before...

Is it a copy installed on a Dell machine by any chance? only reason I'm wondering is if they renamed the admin account during the install process.

Re: full control of .dll files

Should work fine, did this to another Sony Vaio last week to get a piece of software running that needed access to the motherboard details to generate a security keycode.

Mostly make sure you're entering the command prompt via Admin mode initally and the command should run, though it's possible that it's already been accessed and renamed. In which case call Sony tech support and ask them what the hell they called it
