    windows 2003, corrupt files/registry....

ok... computer crashed the other day, no big deal, i had maxed out the cpu and tried running prime95 which resulted in an immediate lockup... it asked me to run scandisk, which i declined, and continued loading windows normally.. nothing was wrong, everything was fine.. today i turned on the pc, it asked to run scandisk, but i was out the room, and when i came back it was already doing it... about 4%.... going *Very* slowly.. so i thought i best let it finish... i left it for about an hour and half, and it told me that there were some files which had been buggered and were truncated (or something like that), which was nice, and then after an hour and a half i just gave up (it was on 8% of 'free space' and had been there for 30mins), went out, came home turned it on, skipped scandisk, and windows loaded fine... *HOWEVER*, there is stuff broken.. i plugged in my usb harddrive to copy some stuff onto it for a friend.. and then went to assign a drive letter to it, and i get this message (when trying to load the harddrive managery thing :

which isnt what i wanted to see..

is there a way of getting window 2003 to 'refresh' the files which may be corrupt (ie that scandisk truncated), without having to reinstall the whole lot (which is 2 hours of my time down the drain...)

edit: picture of scandisk taken on my phone earlier today

i don't think there's a system for it to check through files & do them, but the "installation recovery" (i.e. not the recovery console) option when you boot the cd will reinstall all the windows files on the system & fix the problem, without hurting registry etc settings

oo sounds good.. i found out you can get files of the installation cd manually by typing 'expand filename.xxx destination' which i tried for the mmc..blah file, but then when i did the regsvr32 thing it told me another error.. how useful

    gonna try installation recovery thing...
