Sound a bit rubbish on vista

    Hi,
Just installed vista, and now my sound is a bit "jumpy". ie, it plays, but for like a 1/10th of a second every so often (several times a second to once every 5 or 6 seconds) it kind of stops (doesn't go silent, but isn't sounding like it is meant to)

its hard to explain (i'll try and get a recording).

its a quad core q6600 (2.4ghz) with 3.25 gb of ram, with a creative xfi xtreme music sound card (with the drivers installed) -- so this shouldn't be happening.

it makes watching video files really bad (not sure if it is the added "load" of processing videos, but it seems worse).

    any ideas?

Creative X-Fi and Vista don't like each other tbh. Try and find some Daniel_K drivers. They might help.

You shouldn't need daniel_k drivers for basic sound operation, plus I have seen many BSODs on PCs running them.

Make sure you do install the latest drivers though, might also be worth un-installing the current software/drivers and moving the card to another slot before re-installing the latest version.

    Vista 32 or 64?

Creative's latest drivers (June?) seem to finally do the trick for me. (finally)

    http://digiex.net/drivers/164-creati...-daniel_k.html

i've downloaded the drivers from here but haven't actually used them.... for some reason i haven't got any of the issues that have plagued many users, had 32-bit vista and then changed to 64-bit and no issues with either
