I hope Windows 7 is good and doesn't have the gaming issues that Vista did when it was first released...
Seeing as Windows 7 is just Vista but tweaked quite a bit there won't be any problems.
As has been discussed many times:
NT4 -> Windows 2000 = massive change
Win2k -> XP = New interface and some tweaking
XP -> Vista = Massive change under the hood, a bit of an update to the interface
Vista -> Win7 = Improved (?) interface and refining of the things introduced in Vista.
Tick followed Tock.
Can't remember which one is the major one, but its the idea, it makes developement so much easier i even do it with most of my stuff

Hello,
funny how around a month ago i was using a mac and complaining about having applications running and not running on the same bar with some sort of marker showing the running applications.
then microsoft shows the new windows 7 taskbar with the same idea.......
What i want is the ability to add a blank panel just like with gnome and kde in linux.
so say at the top of my screen i have windows standard task bar and then i can have my running applications on a blank panel left, right top or bottom.
the thing is i like vista but its slow and takes up to much disc space. windows 7 is meant to solve those issues. im really looking forward to trigger services and just hope the major companies acualy use them.
i have another situation that i hope can be solved with windows 7. Alot of programs have a process running all the time just to check for updates say once a week. hp does this, sun java does this, adobe does this etc etc.
normally an autorun entrie. why dont they just add a task to the windows task scheduler?
there is another way to solve this. microsoft could do what they normally do and add something in control panel which does the job.
"third party program updates" all the programs such as java, adobe hp etc would be registered to this program.
then you can adjust eiether globally or by indivitial application how often you want to check updates for all your programs.
default could be once a week. surely this would help people secure their computer?
what do you think?

so you want a completely disjoint running appilcations tray, like you have with UltraMon?

Hello,
I think so
I dont mean multiple monitor support.
I simply mean thr ability to add a blank taskbar and customize it how i choose. same options as normal task bar but blank. so i can add quick lanch, start menu etc etc.
so potentially 4 panels on one screen all with completely different settings.
any decent screenshots showing ultramon?
couldnt find any good ones from google images.

Ultramon provides an "extra" application startbar, that shows ONLY running applications.
you can see this from the screenshot here:
If you look the right hand monitor, has just an application bar.
In windows explorer, you can ONLY spilt out 'hosted' elements, ie quicklaunch, media player etc. The tray icons, the start button and the running applications area are fixed to just one place.

Looks nice, does it have the Microsoft MPEG-2 decoder that vista has, anyone?
I've played with the taskbar (you can enable it in the PDC build it's just hidden) and it has some promise tbh. I probably won't bother with the leaked build as i'm sure MS have an MSDN release planned soonish anyway. There won't be a great deal to see until we get to feature complete beta stage.
Looks nice, I might have to re-enable my Technet subscription now so I can get several licenses on release day. I hope they've enhanced the Media Center component. Although Vista's was a nice improvement over XP it still wasn't quite usable.
