Re: Windows 7 -When will you get it?

Voted "not sure". Been using it on and off for a couple of days now and like it. Seems alot more fluent then Vista some how, even though its in the beta stage. Still doesn't do much more for me than XP so ill have to waits and see. But I don't want to be the type thats still using Xp 8 or 9 years after release.

Re: Windows 7 -When will you get it?

I can't bring myself to use the BETA for Windows. It's over priced (the finished retail product) and so when i pay for it, i want to be wowed from day one to make it worth it. If i get the BETA, i'll not get that "wow" from it because of the bugs, reduced functionality/compatibility etc.

From testing it out, I've yet to come across a bug...

    The "wow" factor starts now

What's better than getting it free for a few months?

Re: Windows 7 -When will you get it?

Probably when I build a new machine. There isn't a reason (for me) to buy an older OS if the latest is priced the same as it's predecessor.

I have and will never upgrade an OS for any personal machines, the only exception to this is when I receive free upgrades when I buy a retail machine a few weeks or months before MS launch their new products.

Since I build new machines on a monthly basis (for others and myself) I guess I'll go for the as soon as it's released option.

Tried different D/L locations, always same storey...

Hopefully, W7 will correct that. But we'll see.
    IMO, not a chance.

I like Vista but I cannot see why any business would want to use it unless they were starting their infrastructure from scratch. It doesn't offer any killer features that businesses would want. Both Windows XP and Server 2003 have 64 bit editions that are readily available and supported to any MSDN/Premier Support member which is the main feature that stands out in Vista as a possible need but even then the number of businesses that currently see any need for 3GB+ in workstations are definitely in the minority.

We currently downgrade all our Vista licences to Windows 2000.....our XP build has been in development for so long that it's becoming a joke (5 YEARS!), constantly delayed because no one wants to take an unnecessary risk in driving the roll-out. No one needs XP - let alone Vista - on their desktops to run office apps and access Intranet sites.

I see both Vista and Win7 as home user OSes, of course that is not what Microsoft wanted or intended but that's the way it's shaping up currently.....and for good reason.

Re: Windows 7 -When will you get it?

I'll be getting ti straight away... The beta for me is rock solid, only issue is with DTS and CMSS within CL's drivers, but will continue to play with that. Other that DTS/CMSS, absolutely no problems with drivers, hardware or other software tripping up...

DX11 is installed and running, not tested with games yet, but after I take an image tonight, will test it with a good run of crysis (or somethign to that effect).

I know this part is just eye-candy, but the desktop background autochanging images is pretty cool, lol...

All in all, very impressed with it so far, and bearing in mind it is a beta, I'm looking forward to future tweaks and the retail version...

Try changing your default sound device. For me it set my default sound device to my USB headset at first, and wouldn't let me change it, the GUI updated as if it changed but nothing happened and it reverted back if I closed the window and re-opened it.

Only annoyance so far is that with the new 'Quick Launch' doubling up as the task bar icon for the program, if I have 1 Firefox window open and I want to open another, I can't use that button. Maybe these sort of things can be added into the right click menus in newer versions, like on Live Messenger.

ooh another thing, it keeps dropping my volume levels down to half in the middle of songs which is annoying as hell when i'm in game, as my KB volume controls won't turn it back up

I'll grab it in the summer when I have some time in order to familiarise myself with it.

I won't, however, be using it for anything.

That works now. Just right click, mozilla firefox, same on most stuff pinned down there.

Anoyance for me is if I use the windows key to minimise a game like Trackmania, clicking on the "minimised" icon doesnt full screen it again, infact havent found any option to bring it back and have to CTRL-ALT-DELETE it. Anoying as hell, as I like to be able to pop in and out of games while doing other things.

Apart from that and the Firewall sucking beyond words, I'm a convert to it, havent booted into XP since install last Sunday!

It is there, if you right click on "any" on the open firefox(program) taskbar button/icon, there is the name of the program at the bottom to allow you to open another window, this is also a shortcut to "recent" documents relating to that program, which is a fantastic idea...

imho, WLM context menu needs work. If you use it to change status, the marker dot does not move, perhaps it should. also why do we need 2 taskbar buttons/icons for WLM, one showing the username logged in and one for the messenger program...

Re: Windows 7 -When will you get it?

with all these little annoyances though, it makes me smile to think it is still beta, still an RC to release in a few months time, and a good 10/11 months away from from retail, if these are the things that are being picked up, MS have done some good work with this little baby...
