    Data recovery software recomendations?

I recently lost a load of data (~40GB) as a result of uninstalling a program(!), and I was wondering if anyone had any recomendations with regard to data recovery software.

On a related note, does anyone know the fastest way of copying files from one PC to another? If I can't restore my data, I can get a fair amount of it back from friends. I used my pen drive before, to copy files to my friends' computers, but it's a bit cumbersome as there's a lot to copy back.
Is it possible to connect 2 PCs via Firewire?

    Yes, or USB.
You could always just put your HDD into his PC & copy disk to disk.

I've always used Search and Recover by Iolo and I've foudn it pretty reliable, you can get a 30 day free trial here, should be fine for someone who only need it for a one off.
