    Windows Home Server: Antivirus? Firewall?

    Morning all,

Have got most of the bits needed now for my home server. I'm upgrading from a DNS 323 to a full on WHS rig.

The DNS, being a dedicated NAS, doesn't (as far as I'm aware) have an antivirus. Does anyone out there use antivirus software on their WHS machines? Or any additional firewall other than Windows Firewall?

Logic tells me that, as the machine COULD be used for browsing through IE, I should be putting AV on it.

I've got a firewall on the router, and as the machine is going to be operating headless, after I've run the initial windows update the reality is that it WON'T be used for browsing, but the vulnerability is still there.

    Confused.

    Any thoughts gratefully received.

Hmmmm... apparently so blindingly obvious that no one deigns to answer...

Re: Windows Home Server: Antivirus? Firewall?

Windows Home Server does come with the windows firewall, and I've stuck with that - the hardware firewall in the router should be good enough in conjunction.

You can buy antivirus for the server, there's a few available written specifically for it - Avast and F-Protect both have software.
