Massive lag with google only - O2 broadband

I have got broadband from O2 and in general I am pleased - 7Mb almost all the time.
Recently, I have noticed a massive slow down while using google/googlemail.I have checked ping and it has been reaching 170-180ms (while other websites are absolutely fine e.g. bbc - 25ms, foreign, not really fast servers 40-50ms).

I have reseted Modem but it has not helped.Anybody experiences similar problems...and what could cause the problem? Is there anything that I should check before I contact O2's tech support

I have not got any viruses and the system is absolutely stable, I have not addeed any hardware.

That ping shouldn't cause a website to slow really. Is this happening on any other computers? What exactly do you mean by lag/run slowly?

The gmail at work runs smoothly so it should not be a problem with google itself, at home however google and googlemail are sluggish - e.g. opening inbox, to send something or check outbox, documents last ages (8-10 seconds or more to open).The problem occurs at any computer connected to my home's modem (tried my wife's and daughter's laptops).I did not face the problem before, everything was running fast.

Apart from automatic updates not, but thanks for the info ,I will try to check some combinations of software as on every PC at home I have similar stuff like the same Firewall,Browser,Antivir,Skype etc. (because just one guy has to service all of it ) .

Thanks again, you were right, the problem was actually much simpler than I anticipated ..... the newest version of Firefox Mozilla for some reason ,at least partially as it just could be a software conflict,makes it working slow.Now, gmail and google work normally with IE8.I have not used it for a while but it seems I will have to get used to it

I am just wondering whether somebody else face similar problems with the newest Firefox + gmail.
