    Windows Paint under Longhorn

Ok this might be a bit of a silly post but i was wondering if MS were going to add or do nething in the way of an update for paint under longhorn. I mean its stayed pretty much the same since.... well always. They could add some sort of gradient tool or a circular selection tool like in PS. i feel its a little too basic for todays computers. So anyideas? thanks in advance

I think it's a bit stupid that Microsoft have been using pretty much the same program since Windows 3.1, and that was how many years ago? It is still useful to do simple things, but with all the programs we have now, I agree that it shouldn't be too difficult for them to improve it.

Then someone would accuse them of creating a monopoly . . .

Paint has been improved in the ALPHA Longhorns, as well as extra features in the picture and fax viewer, including red eye fix and other things as well as the ability to edit a photograph seamlessly between the picture viewer and paint, by time longhorn reaches BETA, its sure to be a lot better

For the moment, Build 4053 is the most stable and quickest, but 4051 Lite edition takes the biscuit - the whole thing has been redone to match xp, but just includes some extra features. It has already been tweaked to run at its peak.

It is a good point actually.. Ever since Win 3.1 they've integrated many things into their OS and Office. It -would- actually make sense for them to either improve Paint a bit, and possibly offer a competing product to PS/PSP. Of course, they will be accused to monopoly, but whats new with that?

Good to here that there have been "some" changes to the longhorn version. Paint is one of the few programs built into windows that i actualy use. Im suprised MS havent released any software to compete with PS or PSP to be honest. Although i wouldnt want PS to have more than one rival thanks for ur posts so far

Exactly... and then force them to remove it because the European parliament thinks users too stupid to realise that there are other paint programs available!!

Paint is dire, you can't even undo more than a couple of things. It's so limited its not even worth having IMO

I used it yesterday to flip an image I wanted to use as my desktop wallpaper, so it does have some uses, I also use it for saving screenshots that I wanna upload onto the net. It is a handy proggie, it loads a lot faster than PS so is ideal if you just wanna change a small thing or do sommat minor. IMO I dont think MS is really creating a monopoly with its media players and such because its all user choice at the end of the day, perhaps these things should come as an option during the install of the OS or be available as a free download but not incorperated into the OS. ofc this causes problems for 56kers and OEM's.... maybe windows or a new PC that came with it could have a seperate apps CD allowing you to choose what you want. that way MS could develop its products anyway they like and wouldnt be accused of stifleing comptition,
I would say that it does stifle compotition (sp...? i cant think how the hell u spell it)
the way things are because although users should be smart enough to know these things, the majority arent.
