Need a colour scheme!

Anyway, the current colour scheme, while easy on the eyes, is a little dull, and I'm lacking colouristic creativity. So, any suggestions? I'd quite like a dark background, with the centre column a different colour to the rest of the background - but it's just WHAT colours to go with.

Also, blue is overused these days, so perhaps something different.

However, all suggestions are welcome!

I usually use two shades of one colour and then black for text.
