Windows 7 + exsisting files

hi, I will be upgrading to windows 7 soon, i will format the hard drive but want to keep my saved game files. eg RESIDENT EVIL 5, GTA IV etc, does anyone know where the files are?
I dont want to start the games from the begining.

Steam game files are in your Steam Apps directory. Copy the entire directory.Reinstall Steam on the 'new' machine then copy the directory across.

Other games vary on where they store the data, but can often be found under the user directories. A quick Google should help. The same principle applies to the copying of the data across.
