Backing up DVD's

I know there have been other threads about this, but I want a simple way of backing up my DVD's, or ripping DVD's to HDD or CD if you like.

I tried that Gordian Knot but was totally confused... Is there any decent free rippers that are simple to use? I don't mind if it takes all day, I just wanna back them up.

DVD Shrink is free and pretty easy to use

You beat me too it , dvd-shrink is the best i use that with Nero 6 works a treat.

Is it me or does DVD Shrink not compress them? I only get the option to creat 4GB files, which are way too big for CD!

Also, does that QuickRip DVD run on Windows?

I don't have a DVD Writer. I want them on CD if I can using DivX or something.

Surely there has to be an easy way to do it? I've tried several programs now, but I don't have a degree in Quantam Physics so can't understand most of them!

Al - have you tried AutoGK? It's a GUI add on for Gordian Knot that makes it make a lot more sense...

Umm, coz I run Windows and know nothing about Linux and every time I try and use Linux I seem to screw up my system!

Even though I hate M$, it's just easier to use.

rip from the original DVd onto your hdd bu using DVD decriptor. Google it to get to the free web site.

Then use DVDx to convert the DVD VOB files to VCD MPG or SVCD MPG. DVDx is also free software. on my duron 1300 PC, it take about 10 hours to convert 2hr movie to VCD.
