    Intelligent differential backup?

Looking for a backup program that has the following intelligence...
    (Windows 7)

For example in a usual differential backup:

-A file on the source is moved to another folder
    - User runs backup
Software deletes the file on the destination folder, spends time making a new copy of the file in the new location.

    Intelligent differential backup:

    - A file on the source is moved to another folder
    - User runs backup
    - Software detects that a copy of the folder already exists somewhere on the destination, it moves this to the new location rather than spending time to make a new copy.

... Currently my backup processes waste a lot of disk access and cpu cycles... needlessly creating 1000s of new copies.

    Re: Intelligent differential backup?

I am looking for something very similar.
    In my example:

    Normal HDD :
    Folder 1:
    file 1
    file 2
    file 3
    file 4

    Backup HDD(after copy):
    Folder 1:
    file 1
    file 2
    file 3
    file 4

say a month or two has elapsed, and now on my normal HDD, file 2 has been deleted as i don't need it anymore, and an extra file 5 has been added...
i need some software that will intelligently detect that file 1, 3, 4 are already present and correct so they don't need to copy them again, but also to detect that file 2 is no longer needed so is deleted on the backup HDD and also to add file 5.

I am currenly doing backups on 2Tb worth of data, and wasting lots of time and HDD condition.

Any help is more than welcome.

    Thanks
    Dentist, and general teeth lover.

DeltaCopy sounds like what you're after.

Ooh data de-dup and block based copy are awesome, not on Windows though!

Thanks Microsoft for sticking with NTFS for the 17th year in a row...

I believe Genie Timeline has something what you after to offer.
