MS 70-640 Exam - Stupid Question

This is an exam for 2008 Active Directory Config.

    I came across this question

Now I know its of use in AD but really is debugging other people's PowerShell scripts really needed for basic config of AD on 2008 / R2?

I have also noticed that there is no 2008 R2 exams but there are some R2 questions in the 2008 exam (there are difference in 2008 and R2)

Yeah they always update the exams to the curent "sub" release AFAIK - I took mine before the R2 release !

If you are a windows admin and dont know powershell - you need to learn the earlier version had questions around scripting with dsadd and dsmod , so powershell is the natural progression of that.

Re: MS 70-640 Exam - Stupid Question

it still has dsadd and dsmod! For me I found it hard to look at that code above and see the right answer.#

Learning all of powershell off the top of your head to answer questions above is a bit OTT I think. I work with Java developers, they have books etc becuase even though they all have years in the field they don't know it all.

If MS provided the above scripts with the OS then yes.

Re: MS 70-640 Exam - Stupid Question

B, and I'm just a lowly 1stline helpdesk guy who only knows basic powershell and has never done an MS exam - I hate all exams, especially MS exams.

I would expect any new 3rd line employee or decent contractor to be able to answer this very easily. Using PowerShell to do any AD or general Windows scripting tasks is a requirement nowadays - it's useful for so many things.

(PS If B isn't the answer, then my response is that I normally script by doing what I think is right & then seeing what breaks.... so I could be wrong and my first attempts often are)

no I think you are correct as well with B ( i don't have the answers here)

I just think for an AD exam its an odd question.

Thinking about the above question I suppose it could be relivent to Certificate Services but its a bit of a long stretch!

Re: MS 70-640 Exam - Stupid Question

to upgrade your MCSE did you simply have to take the exams again?

I see the prices of the exams has gone up its £99 an exam now!

I while ago I did the 2003 exams and I failed one on my first go (If I remeber it was out of 1000) I think I needed 700 to pass and I got 680 it worked out that if I had answered the second part of a multi part question correct I would have passed. That pissed me off.

Yeah - I booked my Hyper-V one just in time

They are still loads cheaper than VMware ones - I had to sit 3 exams to get form 2003 MCSE to MCITP-EA - was one that was the equivilent of the 3 MCTS Core Exams , then a Windows 7 / Vista one and a PRO ( Design ) one for the EA accreditation.

    nice and well done.

I will be going for my 2008 ones soon. Just need the time to sit down and plan my time. Sadly no one I know is using 2008 / R2 in the real world. Infact I know more companies using NT as a DC then 2008 R2. I myself have a Citrix XenServer box filled with R2 images running all sorts of stupid things, ADFS and Certificate Services being the hardest to get right. Infact I would say I struggle with Certificate Services the most out of all the AD related topics.

I'm using it at home, I had deployed it throughout my previous workplace... big companies are slow on the uptake but technology driven smaller companies (with non-lazy admins) will likely have at least begun to deploy by now...
