    Paint Shop Pro question!

Is there any way of saving a shaped image with a transparent background in PSP?
I have a similar thing saved that I did in the very simplistic Microsoft Photo Editor (by just asking it to "make white background transparent"), but I just can't manage to do it in PSP

So far... I have used the "Freehand" selection, drawn around the area I want in my original picture, and cut & pasted into a new image as a "layer".
So, I now have the picture I want with a transparent background (that shows as grey and white checks). This is exactly how I want it to be, but when I save as a JPEG, it merges the whole picture, so I end up with a white background....

    Any clues?! Thanks!

Thanks, but I have tried that... it still says "the saved file will be limited to a single layer and a maxmim 256 colours", then saves with a white background. I think it may be the way I am pasting into the new image.... I really don't know. Maybe it's not possible!!!

the bit you want transparent, make a specific colour r255 g0 b255 is used most of the time.

Make it so your background colour is set to r255 g0 b255 too. Tools > Set palette transparency > reduce to single layer [yes] > optimized median cut, nearest colour > set palette transparency to current background colour.

Save as a gif thats what it is for psp7, and im pretty sure its exactly the same for psp8
