    Hard Disk Full!!

Windows is pissing me off at the moment! I only gave it a 2 gig partition as i 'THOUGHT' that would be enough!

    But NOOOOOO

Since getting my hard new hard drive i have moved the Virtual memory to the new one... (it used to be on the windows partition)

Before the ned hard drive was bought i never had problems with space....

now the windows file is 1.8 FREKIN GIG!! it used to only be about 1 gig max!!

    What has happened here???

And how do I turn off the 'LOW MEMORY' balloon that pops up every 3 or 4 seconds???

if it's XP it will grow & grow as stuff goes into Documents & Settings as well as those programmes that either won't let you choose install location or still put some stuff on C.
& 2 gig would be optimistic to say the least

I always allow at least 10gb for my windows partition, mainly for updates, my documents, and applications that will only allow you to install to C.

2gb is optimistic with XP as it does tend to bloat, also restore points will happily eat away at your hard drive space.

2gb isnt far above the minimum spec for XP.

I used to run out of space upteen years ago on win95 with anything less than 2 gig - your expectations are just unrealistic with regard to the amount of space you have allowed for your O/S partition, dont blame microsoft

Applecrusher - things to look out for

    1. - pagefile (did you remove tnhe old one or simply add a new one to the new drive?)
    2. - System Restore
    3. - Hibernation enabled in a power setings. (reserves area as large as your ram)
    4. - recycle Bin
    5. - Norton Systemworks - the norton protected recyle bin - if enabled this stops things being deleted EVEN when you empty the recycle bin - they just sit there for weeks.
    6. - Temp files
    7. - Internet temp files
    8. - SP1 backup (if you install this with the option to uninstall it backs up all the files it overwrites and takes a lot of room)

To disable the pop ups install tweakui and under 'taskbar' uncheck 'warn of low disk space'

    Hope some of this helps

If this is any help, I have my windows partition set at 5Gb, I use it for windows and programs that wont install elsewhere, "My Documents" are stored on another drive and the path has been changed accordingly. Afunnelhead said, make sure you clear out temp files etc as they can take a LOT of space up.

Edit: Also, if you can get hold of Prtition Magic you can save youself the hastle of formatting again to give windows a bigger section, it just resizes the drives areas and moves ur data accordingly to avoid loss. =)

dunno, i don't trust partition resizing, it always has this big glowy risk of going wrong.

Risk is part of life. You ain't lived until you've used gparted to resize an NTFS partition, just for the heck of it!
