cfuk, a friend of mine uses ukreg.com (for domain names) which seems pretty good you can change the nameservers whenever you want they are reasonably cheap and they have free mail thing with each domain i think.

dream-hosting are cheap and my friend has now renewed for another year. Other people seem to recommend hosting-unlimited alot too.

You're looking at £30 a month absolutely minimum (rubbish place) to probably nearer £60-£100 for the better quality places. Generally, any higher than that and you're possibly being taken for a ride... www.2host.co.uk is who we use for our servers.

I use ukreg for domains, they're cheap (not as cheap as 1and1) but their support isn't great and don't use their hosting (it's fasthosts). A friend who got his through 1and1 had to wait some time after registering before active - ukreg is instant for domains.

You can use their email service or their free email forwarding and site forwarding (quite a few options).

I have just started using www.dream-hosting.co.uk. Absolutely awesome; budget hosting aren't as cheap. (Why do hosting companies love normally takcy sites which slow down your comp. and have pictures of servers from different angles? lol)

    P.S. that was retorical (?spelling?)

I'm going to use A Small Orange, They look really good, lots of features, in the forums it looks like everyone really likes the hosting, it guarantees 99.5% uptime. And the data center pictures made me smile .

These days it doesn't cost the earth to have a host with servers in the UK. Latency is noticeable, maybe not amazingly noticeable, but it's nice. You'll also find that your website won't be listed under Google searches for "UK sites only" (unless you have a .uk ccTLD).

Watch out for hosts using templates from template monster.com or similar. If they care that much about their company and their public image, wouldn't they have worked harder to create a website?

All in all make a google search for any prospective hosting companies - do some background reading and try to get some personal opinions too.

I obviously have to nomiate the company that I work for. They've had around 2-3 hours downtime in the past 2 years i've worked for them. And in all situations the problems were rectified very quickly!

Their site is just under re-construction and is due for re-launch on August the 8th 2005.

But here's a list to their current prices and specs on each account. Prices start at £10 a year and all accounts support PHP, mySQL etc etc. and also come with cPanel and Fantastico.. Blah blah blah!

    Here's the Price List

Oh, and every week before the launch date they will be giving away free hosting accounts (for a year) with no catches advertising or anything like that!

    Webstrike Solutions

One host that hasnt been mentioned so far:

    http://www.webstrikesolutions.com

Provides both Windows and Linux, regular price is $30 for the first year, and then $84 for each year after that. Servers are located in San Francisco, CA and Denver, CO.

Company is managed and run out of Melbourne, Australia which makes the support hours a bit awkward, but they provide an emergency out of ours contact number (which actually works!) if you cant access your site.

I currently have about 15 domains hosted with them, they dont charge for installation of components / ssl certs etc like some companies do.

    I would fully recommend them.

    Cheers

    Andrew

    P.S I don't work for them.

I heartily endorse 3dpixelnet - the prices seem pretty good to me, and their customer support has been excellent.

Another vote for http://www.uh-hosting.co.uk, been with them for about 2 years now, not ever had a problem. Anything I needed changed or tweaked or confirmed has always been handled in under an hour, or sometimes even minutes. Not many hosts will change server settings just like that for you...

Oh, and it's worth noting their reseller package is much better value than the single-site/shared hosting deal. Cheaper whilst also getting you more bandwidth and control.
