    Internet Explorer not found page

Sometimes, when I go to a website, IE doesn't seem to be able to find the page I asked for. However, after clicking refresh (sometimes it takes a few goes ), it loads the page. It is not a regular "page not found" page with a white background, an example page is here.

Does anyone know either how to stop this from appearing so often, or why it's there anyway ?

    Thanks

    spyware.

i'm gonna tell you what to do, but not until you get the bollocking you deserve for letting it happen

it happened because you use internet explorer.

    internet explorer is not secure.

you're lucky if it's just this that happened - it's just as easy for something to be sniffing your card details every time you buy online as to do that advertising redirect.

DON'T, under any circumstances, use internet explorer. i've said this time & time again, and even the US government have warned its citizens, through the Department of Homeland Security's Computer Emergency Readiness Team, that internet explorer is a danger to society.

use another web browser. not a pretty GUI - avantbrowser, myie2 and crazybrowser are all still internet explorer. use a browser based on a different, safe engine, such as Opera or Mozilla Firefox.

ok, to answer the question now, you need to download and run Ad-Aware (from Lavasoft), Spybot Search & Destroy (by Patrick Kolla), and CWShredder (by Merijin). Run all three, disinfect everything. if problems persist, download HijackThis and post us a log reading, so we can tell you what further disinfection is required.

Bear in mind you'll be reinfected within hours if you keep viewing the same websites you have been doing, using Internet Explorer.

I already have spybot, and I'm not about to get the other 2. You say I should get a different browser, and I'll probably do that too. Which are the best, and do they differ much (in the look etc) from IE? Which do you recomend and why?

i use mozilla firefox on my machines. it's a small, clean browser based on the mozilla Gecko rendering engine. out of the box, pretty much all it provides is tabbed browsing - whereby new windows can be displayed as tabs in the same window rather than completely separate windows. all non-IE browsers offer this facility.

you may want to try the Mozilla suite, which is heavier than Firefox, and also includes a mail client, IRC client, web page design app, etc etc etc.

or Opera, which uses its own renderer, and is supported by a small permanent banner ad in the corner (Mozilla products are open source).

no non-IE browser can use IE plugins, which use a standard called ActiveX. many exploits use ActiveX, as it's highly insecure. instead you'll need Netscape-compatible plugins for things - the Flash plugin from macromedia.com, java runtime from java.sun.com, realplayer and quicktime plugins (the installers should give the option).

Are these browers legally free? I don't think I'd like opera because of the permanent advert though .

opera is freeware with the banner ad, is something like $30 to register to remove it.

the mozilla products are Free, Open Source - you could download the source code, edit it, and make your own version of you so wished.

    Trust me. Its worth it
Opera is a lot more than just a browser.
The inbuilt Email client is pretty decent too.

I'm half way through that article now. I might try and find something that list avaliable browsers and advantages/disadvantages of each.

Also, what's the email client for?

Its the program which manages all your emails (if you download them to your system, i use webmail).
    Outlook is an example.

I have version 6. I think I'm sticking with it now though. Those 3 programs above will help.

    Thanks
