    HELP. Must....beat....google....

Alright, so the title's a little dramatic, but it got you in here didn't it?

Prompted by Dorza's post on Meta tags I thought I'd post a plea for help. I'm trying to get a site ranked, and so far I haven't got anywhere.

Could anyone post up some links to 'improve your ranking' resources, and some server-farm info, if that's allowable by the great Hexite Gods.

And if anyone has any experience with google AdWords and wouldn't mind sharing some costs and results, I'd love to hear from you.

    Muchas Gracias...

    You don't haggle ? <- he won't haggle...

I have heard that getting yourself ranked by google is tricky because the exact heuristic they use is kept secret.. Apparently getting loads of external sites, that are getting checked by the google bot, to link to you is one trick to raise your profile quickly.

    Just something I heard

    BRIAN
    I'll give you ten.
    HARRY
That's more like it. Ten!? Are you trying to insult me? Me? With a poor dying grandmother ... Ten!?!
    BRIAN
    Eleven.
    HARRY
Now you're getting it. Eleven!?! Did I hear you right? Eleven? This cost me twelve. You want to ruin me.

I thought from past research that multiple links from multiple active sites was the best way for rankings, at least to start with. Trouble is I don't have any info for server farms, so I kind of need some links.

Done all the basic rubbish to improve rankings, but until people are linking to your site, it's not enough to get you noticed....will keep trying...

links from other site help but the rankings of the sites that are linking to you will also affect your success. and dont doubt the power of displaying relevant info on your pages. also make sure u use the 'alt' tag and name all your images ccordingly as googles little offsprings wont be able to tell what information an image contains.

All of my pages are ASP based.

Anyone know if search engines have a problem with this? Obviously if the page content is sourced from a DB backend, the spiders aren't going to be able to read how relevant it is to the site, and that search criteria....
