sorry but my understanding is that you rip the DVD to your computer? and then burn to the disc, to get round copy protection that may/may not be in place to stop you making a direct copy.
So you accidentally leave 14 ripped DVD's on your machine after you make your backups, accidentally leave them in a directory which has kazaa shared and oops you've just distributed pirate copies of films and without doubt have broken the law.
My intepretation of the law is that it is illegal to make backups, but if it ever went to court (that being remote in itself) you would be very unlikely to have anything done to you. Unless of course you where commercially trying to pirate items.
However you take my point out of context using just that segment as I DO query why people need to make backups in the first place?. DVD's are the sort of thing that you use so frequently that they should fatigue or get scratched....
