    Linux Nforce sound problem

Ok I'm in the process of movin over the linux for my uni work, and so far ive got Mandrake 10.2 installed [same version that we use @ uni] and after hours of sweating ive got my wireless lan card to work with ndiswrapper so ive got the net on it.

Last problem now is sound [Nforce soundstorm], cos theres no way i'm codeing without my mp3s on

I had no sound with the default settings [ie not touching them] so I went to nvidias site and downloaded the latest ones. They installed without a hitch, no errors, but I cant for the life of me figure out how to make mandrake use the darn things. The new drivers arnt selectable in hardDrake - just the old ones and other compatables. I'm sure that part of the problem is that I am using the optical out on the card and I am not sure how to enable optical out.

So to sum up My 2 questions are - how to enable optical out?
    and
how to use the new drivers?

/me would be grateful for any assistance

I was doing this agggeess ago, and i think you need
    "option nvaudio spidif_status=1"
in the sound config file, but i cant for the life of me remember the name of it

I never used the nVidia drivers for sound. I just stuck with alsa and got digital out working just fine. I'm not using that mobo anymore so can't know how I enabled it, but it was in the ~/.bashic (i think) file. Not much help I know, but its something else for you to look at.
