Win2k pro at the moment, though I'm slowly being anaesthetised by XP....
mmmm blootooth
just wish driver support was a little better!
XP as a main OS tho internet browsing is alot faster with 2K
Someone left a note on a piece of cake in the fridge that said, "Do not eat!". I ate the cake and left a note saying, "Yuck, who the hell eats paper ?
2k for me, mostly through laziness tho just cba moving to xp just yet
if it ain't broke...fix it till it is
Quite agree, tried SFCI on 2k, no thanks!Originally posted by Agent
Same here.
I also benchmark on it higher and find it better for my older games.
Some of the themes you can get to replace the default windows one are really nice . But thats just for eyecandy really.
XP - turn off the theming service though, and optimise it using some of the old online tutorials, and bootvis. Then its sweet!
I had an endless run of problems with 2k on one rig. On my new sig rig im using xp pro as im a n00b and it looks really nice
Win2k > WinXP .... nuff said
... well maybe not nuff said ...
WinXP mouse accel is just out of control - it doesn't matter what drivers/reg-hacks/etc you care to throw at it WinXP mouse accel is simply gh3y
Some games don't seem to perform as well in WinXP, some games just simply don't perform in WinXP - i.e. GTA - Vice City and its mysterious missing textures bug on Radeon Cards ... and believe me I've tried to fix this !!! but to no avail
They are both equally stable, I would say Win2K is more secure out of the box, you have to work harder to lock down WinXP because of all the M$ bloatware (but it's doable).
If you like the themes and have a use for all those largely unnecessary applications/processes stealing all your hard earned RAM, then go with WinXP ... otherwise stick with Win2K
I have tried to get on with WinXP, believe me I have , but it just keeps disappointing me ... so f00k it I'll wait till Longhorn comes out in 64-bit flavour till I switch from 2k again.
Win XP but primarily because my TV card runs better under XP. Having got used to it I like it but i wouldn't class it as a 'must have' upgrade
2k.
I find whenever I have to use XP that all the new features are just hassle to me and I end up trying my hardest to get it to look and feel like 2k which is almost possible.
The one feature I really do like about XP is the icon click logon's, but I don't think that is in pro.
Having used both in the last 2 years (updates from the evil ME), i can say windows xp pro is the strongest of the two. I'm no pc guru, but the fact that my windows has never actually crashed so i have to restart in the last year of use is enough proof of reliability to me.
It also looks nicer also
2K.
I refuse to use XP, not only because of the whole TCPA thing (*ducks from TiG*), of which XP is the beginning, what with phoning home at every little hardware change and such, but because I have had so many problems with it on my father's machine.
I'm used to the 9x way of things, and, as I know the most about windows in my family, I was asked to set up dial-up on my father's machine. Now, most of the settings were where I expected them to be. But, one crucial little setting will be somewhere completely different, hidden away. It's like Microsoft decided that people like playing hide-and-seek.
On top of that would be the numerous driver and software problems I've had with it. My father bought himself a SB Live. Most of the software that came with it doesn't even work under XP, no matter what you do to the emulation settings.
That and the default theme sucks.
Nice LAN story, LJ.
It is, but can be easily disabled to show a 2k style login box.Originally posted by elneckio

2k here.
Just never got on with XP, too much integration with MS apps such as MediaPlayer. It has some nice features but to me it's not worth the cost of an upgrade from 2k (how many people on here have *bought* XP?)
