XP won't sign out 1st attempt

    Hi,

A friend has just taken delivery of a new PC with XP home (with SP2) already installed. All seems OK apart from it won't log out 1st go. I have been around to have a look and there is no spyware, virus' or anything running on task manager when you are trying to sign out. When you try the second time it works every time!

    Anyone else come accross this?

Hmm, not heard of this one before - so he clicks Start / Log Off and the Start menu goes away but nothing happens, then he repeats and it works?

Does it make any difference if he hits CTRL-ALT-DEL and selects Shut Down / Log Off {user}?

Does it happen for every user?

yeah see if it is to do with the user account by setting up another one, sounds like a program is running away in the background, i have had educational software (cheap stuff) do this... task manager might shed some light

Well the computers at our uni are just SLOW to log off. You can do it twice or even three times, but it still takes the same time as doing it once. I have no idea why it slow - maybe a network thing.

Make sure it's not just slow.

    Logging off XP

    Hi,

I did have a look at the PC. Nothing to report other than it being somewhat "slow" to log off. What is strange is that it works straight away the second time around! On the way home he phoned me to say that it was now logging off first time!! Strange but true..............
