I used to run SETI, clocked up a very respectable score too but found it created issues with my PCs. I did not enjoy having to reboot once/twice a day to clear whatever the problem was and having to manually intervene periodically because units werent being sent/credited. It played havoc with my overnight downloads.

I need a true install and forget program, no stability issues, that updates automatically when required. It should cache data in case of net interruption and should have a nice score chart so i can refer to my units periodically in comparison to others. I will not perform work for commercial companies unless I get some of the money they make, other than that it just has to catch my imagination somehow.

None of these things are much to ask for, I imagine its similar for most other people.

I used to run SETI 24/7 on all 6 of my PCs, but have now slimmed down my collection and moved onto BIONC SETI. With BIONC (after the initial beta release bugs were mostly ironed out), I find it great to use as I can run more than one type project on my machines at the same time, just set the percentage of resource for them.

Never had trouble with SETI before, and clocked up 10000+ work units on it.

I used to run seti and/or UD while i was living at halls. but now that I am in my new house I can't afford to! When I am using my pc i'm using it, so wouldnt want UD or seti or whatever theiving my cpu time that i want for my own tasks. When i am not using the PC its turned off to save electricity. Thats the big reason for me, if my bills were paid it would be on all the time, but just don't have the ££ atm ;/

I could be wrong, but what you said is not true. Nobody ever uses 100% of their CPU at any one time (unless there's something wrong with it). I think what these programs do is this:

Say you're using 70% of you CPU (probably a lot less TBH), SETI (or whatever) takes the other 30% (which you're not using anyway) and run the program with it.

Just because you doing something on your computer doesn't mean that something else can't do something too.
    *****************************************
And to add to the discussion:
I DID have SETI and that other on that penelieses (sp?) you, but I uninstalled both because I felt they were affecting my system. I will gladly install another one if it doesn't affect my system in any way.

I just need to find one that is not pointless (ie not SETI), and doesn't penelies you for stupid reasons (ie not UD). I'm going over to look at Raves find a drug site now .

    ** Update - I'm now running find a drug! **

A £450 electricity bill due to running Folding 24/7 on 12 pcs at home is a good enough reason to stop. Only thing is I can think of no use for so many PCs other than FAH or similar.
