If i dwnlded TBird would it be possible to open a email accnt as i would with MSN etc? I ask this as i have never seen any emails ending with; @TB.com! Also if i CAN open a email accnt will it be safe to save important emails such as Banking etc or should i just use it for Forums, ebay etc?

It's a fully working email program just like Outlook from MS. I use it for all my imortant emails etc.

I have been using it for about 12 months and I love it. It's definatly on my list of must have apps. Try it, it's free after all.

Well, you won't; MSN is a service which includes mail, be it accessed via your browser or Outlook/Outlook Express. Thunderbird is a mail client; it's not tied to any particular provider, so whoever your ISP is, if they allow POP3 access to mail then you can use Thunderbird with it; so if your provider were Telewest, your mail would be from or to <username>@blueyonder.co.uk, for instance, but the program that you would use to compose, send and receive your mail would be Thunderbird.

Short answer? Yes. OK, long version , there is nothing inherently insecure about using a mail client such as Thunderbird. It's as safe as your machine is; as to when you should use it, you're confusing the program and the service; the service gives you whatever mail address your service provider is associated with, and that's what you'd be giving your bank, etc. The program just picks up and stores your mail. Also, bear in mind that most reputable banks will NEVER send important or confidential material by email. You can bank online, you can "mail" them, but only via their secured website.

I was reading about TBird having some issues...security and what not related...lotsa bloat...have all those issues been taken care of? I wouldnt mind having a centralized email setup.

for centralised mail, you want IMAP (not POP3) access to your mail

I have had a cpl of bones with TBird, but still use it.

    1. If you click on the get mail button (not the drop down menu -> Get all new msgs) it doens't get the emails.

    2. It doesn't minimize to tray.

Though I do use the entire moz foundation software catalogue.

Sunbird is nice IMO then Outlook.

As long as you can get ur pop server address from aol, not 100% sure what it is, prob something like "pop.aol.com or mail.aol.com" u can get it to work with any mail prog.
