No need for floppy in Longhorn... Please!

Help Change Longhorn Installation Process:
[H]ard|Forum member kraemer007 is trying to convince Microsoft to implement an install process that allows mass storage drivers for new controllers to be loaded from a CD, DVD or USB device instead of the antiquated "floppy disk only" option. Microsoft is watching and your help is needed.

I have been trying to convince Microsoft to change the install process so mass storage drivers for new controllers can be loaded with something other than ancient floppy disks when installing the OS on a new machine. For example you get a new nforce4 mobo, and you can’t install XP unless you have a floppy drive hooked up so you can feed XP mass storage drivers. Wouldn’t it be nice to load the drivers via CD/DVD or USB stick? This feature is tentatively set to be implemented in Longhorn but may be dropped. Please help me convince MS to implement this feature by leaving your feedback here.

Check it out and voice your opinions, no-one wants to have to have a floppy drive to install windows, even you linuxs chaps, when was the last time you helped someone out with their xp system and needed a floppy drive to re-install windows, its just plain wrong.

Lets get the community together and make MS take note.

Well, even though the guy in the thread said he had contact with microsoft.

He later edited the post and removed it.

But isn't there someone in this forum that has Microsoft written all over him?

why not just add them too a customed disc with drivers etc slipstreamed too their was a recent post on inputting ur sata drivers into a iso bootable xp install so same could be for longhorn if they dont include it...

Floppy disks are an ancient and archaic technology. It has outlived its useful lifespan and should be banished forever! They were annoying and slow for Amiga and Atari games/apps now they are just a pain in the rear end. I can't be bothered with them.

I havn't had a floppy in my system for years now, Im just too stingy to have gone the sata route yet.

I like floppies. They're useful when you want to boot from something small (e.g. Memtest), so you don't have to use an entire CD. They also don't whir for five minutes after you've accessed them. Having said that, bootable USB pen drives are very interesting... and will probably break less than floppies.
