    Remote Desktop Connection

Can anybody help me set up my remote desktop connection between a XP Pro
system and windows 2000 pro sp4. I know you can connect from the 2000 machine to the xp machine no problem, but i need to do it the other way round, from the xp pro machine to the 2000 machine.
I'm currently using Radmin to do the job, but it's only a trial and thats about to run out, i'm too stingy to buy a license. + i only used it because i couldn't get windows remote desktop connection to work.
Any help would be appreciated. Or suggestions for alternative method??

    Cheers

AFAIK Windows 2000 Pro can't be remotely controlled by Remote Desktop.

Try VNC as a free alternative.

Like TAK noted - VNC is a very handy and easy replacement for remote management. Not only are popular versions free - but there's plenty of support out in the community should you have any problems. Personally I finally broke down and got a license to Dameware but still find myself using VNC from time to time when working with remote clients.

You Should be able to login to a win 2000 pro box this way, some of our older servers are 2000 boxes, and we use remote desktop for almost everything.

I think there's a remote desktop server program you need to install though. I'll check at work tomorrow if I remember. (or you could Google for it)

VNC is ok, but for windows to windows Micro$oft is better tbh, faster.
They told me I was gullible ... and I believed them.

I'd also be interested in finding out how to control a Win2k Pro box via remote desktop/RDP. I was pretty certain that it wasn't possible - but it's been a while since I've played around with 2k.

Just installed VNC and it works great, infact it seems alot faster and less resource heavy than Radmin. And best of all it's free, always a bonus. I will be using VNC from now on.

You can't. 2000 Server has Terminal Services available which can be installed in admin mode which allows up to two admins to connect to a server without needing CALs using RDP. 2000 Pro has no equivalent; TightVNC or UltraVNC are good options depending on what functionality you need.
