by doing that itll let you choose a different/closest transmitter. not analogue/digital.

i dont think the card will be both analogue and digital, what would the point be.

to me it simply sounds like its digital and they dont have enough signal strength to use it.

Well they have Sky +, is it possible to connect that up to the PC?

You'll probably know this but with Sky + they have to cables from the Dish. How would i connect it to the PC?

I have tried all the local transponders that were listed, but didn't get a connection. Freeview is available in our area.....do you think they should get a freeview box? Would that help?

Does the Sky+ box have S-Video? I've connected my media centre comp to the Sky box this way. Don't have Sky+ so not sure what connections it has I'm afriad.

    ah right...

How did you get Live TV in Media Centre to route through the S-Video port?

It picked it all up automatically. Looking at the spec of the card on the first page, I assume you have an s-video input on the card? I just plugged the sky box in there. MCE picked it up instantly and detected that I had sky connected. Thats it. I didn't have to tell it anything. Well not that I noticed anyway. Not sure if this helps you in any way, but I guess its worth a try to get some sort of picture appearing on their screen.

I don't know what the Sky+ interface is like, but with normal Sky, when I press Live TV MCE just turns Sky over to what ever channel was on last.

Cool, Thats handy! I hope that does help, as I'm no AV expert! I guess if it works well that way, there won't be a need to get it working with the arial? In any case, going through the dish/sky will give them a much better picture than using the arial's standard co-ax cable.

    Right,

The 3 coloured phono leads did not work. I have run the setup again but it still doesnt work.

I noticed when i go to "Setup TV Signal" it says "TV Signal: Antenna" How do i change that to say cable or digital set top box?

I will try and get hold of an S-video cable to see if that works..

What do you think the next step is?

    Ta

id setup the whole MCE part from scratch. its not a crippled OEM Bundled HP version or something is it? is it the proper OEM/Retail?

you can get DVB-S cards which take the signal straight from the dish.
you can get DVB-C cards which take the signal straight from a cable aerial.
you can get DVB-T cards which take the signal straight from your TV Aerial.

make sure you have rollup 2 on the machine (ie. all updates) - i had the option for Cable, Antenna and something else. when i setup MCE.

Could you tell me what menu i should go to, to change Cable/Antenna etc...

It came with the Packard Bell machine so i guess it's OEM.

As you can see this is a DVB-T Card so it should be working from the aerial.

Is MCE asking you for the transponder? If not you'll need to go through the TV configuration again. When setting up a DVB-T card you need to get it exactly right otherwise you'll get no channels at all. If it's not asking you for the transponder then it might be only detecting it as analogue, there may be some option you need to change but I don't know without seeing it.

To be honest, I'd recommend letting someone who knows about MCE take a look at it directly. The remote assistance feature in XP really is useful in situations like this assuming you know how to configure your firewall to allow it temporarily (port 3389, if your firewall is uPnP then it should be opened automatically when you make the request).

    Hi DGVS,

Yes it is asking me for a transponder. I have been through the media centre setup several times. I have also scanned the other transponders in my area.

I have not selected anything to do with the DVB-T card. There is no software on the machine that i can see that allows me to do this. or do you mean set the DVB-T up in media centre?

If you do mean in Media Centre, just to confirm could you tell me what menu i should go to, to do that?

I have been through the setup menus a few times....i'll give it another go.

If it's asking for the transponder then it's set up properly, the next step is to check whether it can receive TV using a standalone app (presumably there is one for your card).

Thats the thing.....my neighbour claims they never recieved one. They showed me the cd's they had. I wen to the packard bell website and put their serial number to see what software i could download, but the only thing related to the TV card was the driver. (downloaded and installed that to be sure)

I thought when it listed the local transponders that this information was retrieved from the internet, not through the TV card.

Anyone know of a 3rd party app i could use to test it?
