Question Vista Release 2 + Shuttle ST20 = SATA No Go

    Hey all,
Been looking forward to installing Vista, but I don't seem to be having much luck.

I boot from the cd, input the cd key and I get to the screen that should show hard drives. However, none show up. So I hit the drivers button, slap in the SATA floppy but the installation reports it can't find any drivers?

I have also tried installing from Windows XP, but when trying this I was treated to the blue screen of death

If anyone could help me out, it would be very much appreciated.

    Regards,
    Leon

whats the controller the hdd is on?

have you checked its on the supported hardware? Remeber its a beta, so latest drivers won't be made by MS yet, you will need infact to get them from the vendor. The disk you have probably is either not 64bit, signed, or compatable at all with vista.

    TheAnimus, thanks for the reply.

According to Hexus' review, the SATA is from ULi M1573.

So you suggest looking elsewhere for the drivers, to try and find some that are Vista compatible?

    Thanks again for the advice.

Thanks Madman, though the page you linked shows the driver size at 10Mb?

Also in order for Vista to pick these drivers up, how you recommend I go about this? Put the unzipped file on a USB stick or CD etc?

Sorry, wasnt quite awake this morning

I would put them on a floppy disk if you still have them, makes life easier, otherwise a cd should be ok.

Right have downloaded these to my laptop, unzipped to an .exe and burnt to a cd. However Vista still doesn't like the drivers. I remember reading that it prefers the drivers in a top level directory, any ideas people?

EDIT: Right inside the SATA folder, there are several other folders: M5281, M5287, M5288, M5289. Now I know my motherboard uses ULi M1573, but I'm unsure as to which folders contents to copy to the root of the cd?

Any more help is very much appreciated.

Its not a SATAII drive is it?

And are you using a standard Windows XP install disc?
Please do not message me about Scan Free shipping, I no longer work for HEXUS.net

im having problems with my instalation as well. took a working system and stuck it on another motherboard using sata2.

going to try the same image on a normal ide drive and install the drivers and then move to sata2.

    that normally fixes things
