I only have 1 user so why do I have to click on the icon every time?

    Hi all,

I have a media centre box I built around a shuttle SN45GV2 (yes it's old but it does the job), using windows MCE 2005. The big problem I have is that it does not auto login, despite the fact I only have one user setup. I have to click on the icon every time. Obviously this interferes with recordings, several times I have not recorded stuff because it didn't log on after I turned it on in the morning.

I've used tweak UI to set up an auto login, it worked once, then stopped logging in again. Is there anything else I can do to make it log in automatically?

    Chris
I own a PC that changes regularly, so I don't bother putting anything in here...

Use this little program. Mark Russinovitch is now a big name at MS, because he knows more about how Windows works than 99% of the people who wrote it.

This usually happens when .Net Framework 1 is installed. For some reason or other it sometimes creates a new user. Just delete that user from User Accounts in Control Panel, and the problem goes away. Assuming that was the problem, of course.

    /\ its the .net framework.

Oh...this is gav just said it too.

Anyway...do as he says, delete the extra user (.net) from your User Accounts in control panel.

    Sorted

Do not delete the .Net account, believe it or not it creates it for a reason.

Start > Run > "control userpasswords2" and untick "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer". Then fill in the details of the default account.

You may want to set an account password before doing this though, so you benefit from auto-login but still have to enter a password to set a password (so nobody can lock you out of your own account), access shares etc.

My apologies then. That's the way I learnt when .NET framework was first doing the rounds.

If you have already done it, if it's any consolation, I never suffered any ill-effects.
