    New HDD, Win XP problems

I've just moved my WinXP installation over to a new drive using Maxtor tools, and I've run into one or two issues.

    1. Some program icons are/were missing off desktop shortcuts. If you use the 'Change Icon' option, you get an error message (this is the one for Windows Live Messenger: "Windows cannot find the file %SystemRoot%\Installer\{FCE50DB8-C610-4C42-BE5C-193F46C6F812}\MsblIco.Exe.")
EDIT: Also, all files that WMP plays have lost their icons (still play fine on double click though). Same with PDFs.

    2. The icon to run Microsoft Office Outlook in the Start menu has the wrong icon, and when clicked, displays the 'Open With' dialog.

    3. Some programs refuse to start their uninstallers (currently Flight Sim X demo and LEGO Star Wars 2 demo).

Another, less problematic issue is my firewall (Zone Alarm) 'forgot' everything I'd told it about what programs can and can't do. This isn't a problem really, as I can just re-do it.

I remember when I did the drive copy, I got a prompt at the end warning me that some files were not copied, and these were Windows temp files that will most likely be regenerated upon the computers restart, but now it seems they held some information.

Any ideas how I can re-generate some of this info? Sadly in my haste, the previous drive has already been re-partitioned and formatted, so no recovery is possible there.

    Thanks.

You can try a Windows recovery install which should keep your settings and stuff. (with the Windows boot CD)

The program uninstallers not sure you can do anything about them

Outlook icon / shortcut can just be deleted then a new one put in its place

I've tried that, just replaces it with the same thing. Weird.

I've managed to get the programs out by running their installers again.

I'll maually fix the icons in the file types menu, so I just need to figure out why the e-mail icon isn't working properly.

If I do figure it out, I'll post here, in case someone else is looking for the answer too.
