    P5B Deluxe Problems

I ordered a P5B Deluxe from Scan and it came on monday, installing motherboards has never being a problem for me.

Asus is a brand new for me before I used to use MSI, Gygabyte, DFI and others, as far as I know the motherboard to boot up just need Processor + Processor Cooler + Memory Ram + Graphics Card and of course power.

So starting installing the motherboard I saw that it comes with many sata cables as for the Intel chipset ICH8 uses many of those. It looks a good board, nice layout and well designed(I really loved it).

I bought to work together with my E6600 till DFI launch a 590 Intel version in september, stopping speaking about useless info's.

I started building it with the components and no boot and even no beeps at all.I have a Coolermaster ATX 2.1 with speakers on and so far nothing. I contacted the Scan support monday night and said them about my problems and they suggested to remove all the components from the board and then to clear up the CMOS, so I did that and again trying all even swapping components like memory ram, graphics card and processors and nothing so far, I could not get the mnonitor display to work or I should say to boot up.

I have gone to many places trying to find explanations about the issue, if was in the case other user with the same problems. I went to Asus forums and many people also have problems like mine. I understand this is my first contact with Asus motherboards, but let's back to the knowledge way of building a computer, any motherboards needs just a few components to display the boot or to post.

I'm still waiting for the Scan support to answear my question sent yesterday. I would like to share what happened with me. This is really a nice motherboard as I have seen it can get with the new bios up to 500 FSB, indeed it has many features.

I will update my post as soon as the Scan support answear my question as they are having problems with the system.

Does that board need the P8 connection from the PSU?

    It does not need.

You can put P4 but if you have p8 is better for many things, mainly for instability when you are overclocking.

Just according to the manual for my new ASUS P5N32SLi SE Deluxe it won't boot without the P8 connection, wondered if yours was similar...

Remove everything from the board except the CPU and RAM. Turn the machine on. Does the LED on the board near the SATA ports light up? If not, your PSU isn't working or isn't connected properly.

Ram + PSU + Monitor + Graphics Card = Works great.

I have done it. The motherboard it is working but there is no display. The fan led from the hard disk behaves strange, also the cpu fan and graphics card fan does not work properly.

I have my other motherboard here and its works perfectly.

This is my first time getting an Asus motherboard and I may be wrong who knows. I tried all the steps as the manual says and no display, everything when I change the motherboard work, so far nowhere. I would order another one just to make sure is the board. i have never seen a board behaving like this one, after 3 whole days spending with this I gave up.

If Scan not sort out fast for me, I will order another one and after they give me full refund for the fault one.

Thanks for all people help is appreciate.

I'm a bit lazy to open the box and see the bios revision now but it seems 0205 or 0204 I think is conroe compatible despiting that I tried also my Pentium 4 550 3.4.

that ram is rated at 2.2v and thats more than likely why it wont boot. grab a stick of low spec ram that is rated at 1.8v and it should boot.

Does this mean the fans spin up then power down?

It might be worth trying to reset the CMOS. This can be a pain with modern boards as CMOS doesn't work the way it used to and there's no direct 'clear CMOS' jumper. You can try removing all the power leads and then taking the battery out. Leave it out overnight or even longer. If you're lucky this will cause the CMOS to reset completely

This could be a good idea, I had removed the battery for 5 to 10 seconds as it says in the manual. I may try that tomorrow.

buy a cheap stick for about £9, if it works, itll save you the £30 that scan will charge you for testing the board

I had to reset the BIOS on my D975xbx and removing the battery for over 12 hours was the only thing that worked. These new 'advanced' BIOS chips are a PITA.
