Laptop had to be formatted, lost all the music so need to extract it from the iPod Nano to recover it, what can i use?

I tried ephpod and it only manages to extract 1/4 of the tracks

Not what you want to hear I know, but isn't the ipod designed to make this kind of thing difficult (ie the DRM side of things)?

Redchair Software is who you are after. It is shareware though, not sure how much you can do with the demo version.

    Cheers,

Just got rid of my iPod after it died on me after 18 months, but while I was using it I used Ephpod, superb piece of software and completely free too.

Podplayer is also free and extracts tracks to the PC
Also allows you to play tunes from the pod on any PC it's connected to.

Make sure disk use it enabled....
then make sure you can see hidden files.... find the hidden music files, which will have completely random names on the ipod....
then copy them to a place on your hard disk drive.... and then re add them to itunes; they will have the correct tags/names in itunes

Winamp also supports iPods and is free, can't remember if it allows copying off the player yet.

If not do what stinger161 says....if you need to rename them then just get mp3tag and do a convert tags -> filenames.

If you copy the folder from the ipod in this manner and tell itunes it's allowed to reorganise and rename the files according to their titles and album names (look in the Itunes preferences), it will rename and reorganise the files accordingly. Cunning that

iTunes 7 allows you to copy from iPod to PC, so why not just use that...

What, apart from the numerous, dreadful bugs?

I didn't realise it did have that functionality, I'll check it out. In any case, when it's been reinstalled it doesn't know that the ipod is associated with it so the first time it's plugged in it will want to wipe all the music on the ipod, or have they fixed that too?

I've avoidid iTunes 7 due to it's appalling glitches so can't speak on that. Podplayer looks quite good, personally I've used www.copypod.net in the past.

Better than all the rest of them, google podutil - in a rush so i cant get all the exact details, but you just extract it to a fodler onto your pod, start it, and you can play straight from it or select which tracks to extract. Really good and free!!!

That problem only happens if you have your iPod/iTunes set to automatically syncronise your tracks - if you have it in disk mode (which i reccomend; works so much better if your music collection is bigger than the space on your iPod) then it just loads your list.

I didn't know that iTunes 7 had this functionality either - previously I had just copied everything off it manually and let iTunes fix all the files..this is much better though if it works.

iTunes 7.0.1 is much better than the original release - the ridiculous CPU usage and 'sound stutter' bugs have vanished, its now completely stable for me..much closer to the almost perfect OSX version now.
