Question Exporting from Outlook to Outlook Express

Does anyone know if its possible to export email from outlook to outlook express?

I have a client who insists on using Outlook Express 6, but the problem is, when opening outlook express, it hangs and you can access anything, or it just closes.

Main problem is the sent items dbx is 750mb

Ive removed it from the folder and managed to compact all the other folders, but im thinking of importing it all into outlook to manage/archive it and then put it back into outlook express

    Thanks

Outlook Express is not very good at dealing with large DBX files. Once the file gets over 6-700Mb is get corrupted more easily and becomes a lot more unmanageable. Outlook is much better and I would recommend that your client either starts again with a fresh (or significantly reduced) Outlook Express OR he adopts Outlook. Using Outlook Express with a 1Gb+ store folder is asking for trouble!!!

    Use IMAP?

MS Usualy try to make it hard to export data from their applications, but seeing as Outlook, Outlook express, and vurtualy all non MS email tools speak IMAP, there is an effective export mechanism.

Basicaly you will need a linux or Unix box of some sort. Install a loggin account for your client, and an IMAP server (I use dovecot). Hook up the Linux box to your client's LAN. Then add the new IMAP account to the outlook settings. Dragg the emails (or whole folders if you like) to the server, and then dragg them off again using a different email client, or on a different machine.
