Running Ultimate now. Will stay dual booting for a while till the dust has settled. It just feels exactly the same as when XP was released a lot of googling and trial and error. Much easier after you work out how to log on as administrator.

Never mind the Beta, final release is pretty widely available. I have a Vista Business upgrade disk sitting here. I think i'll get copies of the non-upgrade versions through my Action Pack sub in the next couple of months.

MSDN subscribers have had it for a while i think.

You do realise that you're circumventing one of the best things about the OS, don't you?

You can still have admin rights with UAC on (and functional) tho... I do agree with the principle of _not_ logging on as an admin by default every time you use the computer. For the work I do (development) it's not practical but I will be using it as a 'normal' user when I install it at home.

That was my point Dangel - when running in a normal environment I see no reason to logon as an administrator. UAC is a fantastic thing, and unfortunately most people will disable it as soon as possible and then complain when they get infected.

UAC is the only thing attracting me to vista. anyone of my acquaintance who disables it can do without support.

Well it's worth remembering that UAC and not running as admin does require buy-in from developers as well as users tho. My point really was that UAC is independant of admin status to a degree - it still pops up to ask your permission
Conceptually UAC is a great idea - but will people actually keep it on? And if they do will they end up just clicking the boxes away without looking at what's in them? It's a constant problem for me in our own software - people just want the box out the way and don't read what it says. If I had a penny for every time a user told me my software crashed and i said "so what was in the crash dialog?" and they said "didn't look"

I suspect I'll get it soon and dual boot it until it's stable enough to use every day

When I have to for the gaming rig - for my day to day computing I'm thinking of selling my SFF PC & getting a mac mini instead.
