Has anyone applied for the beta on the microsoft connect website?
I got my acceptance email today, just downloading 1.8GB (3 iso's)
Will report back once it's up and running

Hmmm I'm not sure about it. My Linux based media PC does a good enough job of storing stuff and I could easily configure it further to be more flexible.
Still, interested to see what people make of it and if it really is any better than just turning on some shared folders etc...
edit: I'm also worried about Paul Thurrott's quote at the end; "I'm excited about Windows Home Server in a way that I haven't been about technology since the first time I laid eyes on Windows Media Center ("Freestyle"), back in early 2002." Windows MCE is what made me switch my media center to Linux... it's cack.
I'll probably have to support it at work, ugh. They have fancy UI's and everything? Hmm.
Betcha you won't (unless you specifically support home users) - AD domains are not supported. I got a beta invite, but am having issues with registration and am currently waiting on MS getting back to me. I've done a fair amount of reading and I'll be honest - I'm probably as excited as Paul Thurrott about it.
Ah okay, if AD domains aren't supported then it's very doubtful we'll have to support that, fortunately. I have enough trouble with Windows 2003 Server as it is
WHS will join an AD domain, but after 24 hours the licensing server kicks in and the server works in reduced functionality mode until it is removed from the domain. I think it's a great idea for home users - buy a box with a 500Gb hard drive and WHS, have it automatically back up your other machines every night without additional software? Rumour has it that there may be functionality further down the line of it taking on a WSUS functionality too, so all your Windows boxes are updated together.
We still have users who use NT4, so I can't see many major customers shifting to Vista based OS's.
I've applyed for the Beta - could be interesting for my uni house next year, especially as I'm a total linux noobie.
Wonder if they will do the same as they did with Vista, and give out free licenses to beta testers...
I was hoping to get a copy of this through my MS Partner Action Pack subscription, but as it is a home product, i'm starting to think i won't.
Shame. it sounds interesting.
i'll have a look at signing up to the Beta. Failing that i'll wait until some reviews are out, it might be useful, but i'm not going to throw down hard cash to find out it doesn't do it for me
