Rather depends there. My Hybrid has mountain bike rims on and 36 (or was it 32?) spokes. In short, it'll stand up to a lot more than the rims on my mates £300 MTB.

Put something like Mavic A 719s on and you've got a set of wheels desgned to bundle into tree roots without a hint of suspension.

That one also looks like a good offer. Is it better than the one you mentioned Lowe?

Fair enough. Might as well go with the cheaper one then as you have to pay £30 delivery. Pity Scan didnt do bikes

Re: Looking into getting a bicycle

IM curious. If i decide to get some slicker tyres for this bike will i have to get new wheels too?

Also i know you said not to get a bash guard (i know new words now yeyy!!) but i think i'll need one for more shorter comutes on the bike. To uni and town etc. Is there any you would reccommend for the Malt 1?

I tried ringing today but didnt get through I'll ring on monday and order it (finally!).

I will get some pictures up when i have it

    I've got two locks:

The D lock I keep in my bag and the cable lock I wear around my waste. They're pretty heavy but this is typical of good locks and these both have gold security ratings. This is important if you're thinking of insuring your bike. I've got my bike insured but it's worth about £900 and i do lock it up in public (even in central London). From my experience people tend to say you should spend about 10% of the bikes value on locks. I spent £120 on mine but it's worth it.

If you went down as far as 26x1.00, you might be pushing what the rim will accept. However, there's plenty of choice with slicks in XC wheel friendly sizes. With MTB commute-style slicks, the price is rather down to longevity and puncture protections. £20 a set up to £50 a set.

Re: Looking into getting a bicycle

Obviously I'm not going to give any guarantee, but I've been on Randonneur tyres since some time in 2006 and never punctured one.

The one thing you will speed up on if you're switching from Commute rubber to MTB rubber is whipping the tyres on and off. I'm sure I can give a good breakdown of the method I settled on when I was fitting I-don't-know-how-many sets a week.

Re: Looking into getting a bicycle

Hey guys. Well I had my 2nd out of 3 exam today. The last is on Friday and I'm off next week so im ordering my stuff on Thursday so I can do it next week. My rent also came out so i don't quite have as much as i thought. For this reason i've had to pass on the Merlin as the extra money, then the price of Delivery was adding £80+ on the bike.

So i've decided to go with the GT Avalanche 1.0 2008 (£399) which has got really good reviews. Was really looking the Specialised Rockhopper Disc 2008 but couldt find it in my size for a reasonable price The red looked Pure sexy too!

The other stuff im ordering is

Now is there any comments on any of the equipment im going to buy or any changes i should make? (hopefully not costing more) ?

Im nearly decided to forget all the accessories and spend all that money onca bike and leave the rest of that stuff until April for my next loan installment!! Such as http://www.cyclestore.co.uk/productD...&categoryID=59. What do you's think?! lol

Thanks for sticking with me all the way guys. It's been very much appreciated. A special thanks to Konan555 and Lowe!

EDIT: ****this is doing my head in!!! lol I think I found a bargain.... http://www.tredz.co.uk/.Scott-Scale-...-MTB_12468.htm ?????

If it is a bargain (do u think xl is a good enough size for me?) can it take dick brakes if i was to buy them seperate? Or should i just stick with the gt.....

    Hate bikes now
