i found this from royal mail
    http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/j...mediaId=400031

    what you recon? they say
Standard Parcels is ideal for items up to 1.5m long and 20kg in weight, provided the combined length and girth doesn’t exceed 3m.
sure a bike wouldnt exceed that right?

if you took the bike apart, like removed wheels and handlebars, it'd easily fit in that.

DHL or Citylink would be better for something like this I'd expect...

    It's 4.98*

    Citylink
lol never, had so many problems in past, like when i ordered a package and they refused to give it to my family member saying you cannot sign for a package unles you the person who on the signing paper.

what a nunce lol had to drive 2 hours to get it back, kinda defeats the point of deliv service.

i think RM probally best, they need the bussiness too by the looks

Re: how to post a bike?

My folks take their bikes on holiday and the old man has the best way of packing up a bike.

Go to a local bike shop and see if they have any boxes left over. All their stock will be sent in BIG cardboard boxes and they usually have some of these in stock. Get one that's big enough and one that has handles if possible. They should be able to give you some plastic axles too.

Get hold of some material that you insulate pipes with. This comes in various thickness and you may be lucky with off cuts from a DIY store, alternatively use the mountains of bubble wrap you have after buying stuff from Scan! Select first on the bike (big cog at the back) - this makes the rear mech not stick out. If you can take the pedals off then this really helps. Put the pipes around all of the main tubes and the rear seat stays. Next, take off the front wheel and the seat post/seat. Put plastic axle where front wheel went and put some more piping on the fork legs. To put it into the box turn the handlebars through 90°. You may have to let the tyres down to get it in. It should fit snugly. Next put the front wheel in. This should fit on the opposite side to the chainset/front rings. Be careful as this can be difficult and you don't want the axle/QR to scratch the frame (you can always take the axle out and bag separately - I like to tape it to the seat post). Next get a carrier bag and put the pedals and the seatpost/seat in and place that inside. Generally this is fine to be shipped (never had any problems with it this way in aircraft holds!) but you may want to pad it out if anything jiggles. Next get some heavy duty tape and tape up the box. Voila!

Oops - I read the thread title and started typing. Anyway I'll let it stand for info.

You'd be better off with a courier. It will depend on weight and size. Shouldn't be more than 30lbs weight. Any etailer like Evans will have specific delivery prices for the UK and but also do things like shipping from store to store so.

Just the wheels then you turn the handlebars so they are parrallel with the frame and then it fits in a box

Unless it's has a large stem or something.

Re: how to post a bike?

I race bikes and buy & sell quite frequently. As a previous poster said, I get spare bike or bike frame boxes from my local bike shop and then I use Parcelforce to send them. It is signed for, with a tracking number, and generally costs about £15 with basic insurance.
