Re: I need a bit of help shifting a bit of weight

I managed to shift 5lb this week, I upped my cardio to 60 mins a day, had small meals and had baked potato and either chicken or tuna for dinner and made sure I drank 2L of water every day.

I have no idea if its just water or not

You could drive close to work then cycle. Then little by little up the distance. Its tough for 3 weeks then get easier. The best way to lose weight is to change your lifestyle otherwise any change will be short lived.

Not that true tbh, you could lose the weight by diet and exercise, then when you are a low bodyfat, if you kept the exercise up, and ate normal foods again, you won't become fat again, you'd put on muscle and get fitter.

You become fat again if you sit around and eat too much.

Re: I need a bit of help shifting a bit of weight

Just echoing what a few others have said here. Definetely increase your calorie count and DEFINETELY start a resistance training regime, this alone is one of the most important things you can possibly do to lose fat.
Your main goal should be to gain muscle as this will turn your body into a calorie consuming furnace! The more lean muscle mass you have, the more calories your body needs to sustain itself even when you are sat around scratching your arse

Unless you're desperate to lose weight in a hurry I'd concentrate on just having a good workout at least a couple of times a week and eating sensibly rather than dieting. Otherwise the weight will just come back on later.

I enjoy biking - just find something that works for you and keep at it. Also ignore any weight change which is 3lbs or under - it's just not significant, IMO.

    Eh?

A "Diet" is eating less than your recommend daily allowence, so if you eat 2499 calories - You are on a diet.

Nah, you start burning fat virtually instantly, it's when you get over about 25 minutes that your body starts buring more carbs and less fat..... though doing about 45 mins is still good as it will still burn more total calories than only doing 25, and speed up your metabolism in general which will increase your weight loss.

As others have said Jay, I'd be eating a lot more than you are at the minute, I'm surprised you can actually keep that up and don't feel totally fatigued all the time! If you want to do more cardio then I'd do it over two sessions rather than one long one personally, but 45 mins 5 or 6 times a week is pretty good....

I think he means that it would be better to get into a healthy "lifestyle" rather than being on a specific diet plan that would be difficult to maintain long-term.....

I have lost a stone and a half! I'm not a big guy either... Think I should try and get some muscle toning done!

Your doing well there but don't try and lose it to fast.

Don't forget that you will be heavier in the evening then in the morning, make sure you weigh yourself at the same approx time each day to get a more accurate measurement of your weight

    Not always...

    Oxford English Dict: Diet: noun
1 the kinds of food that a person, animal, or community habitually eats.
2 a restricted regime of eating, followed in order to lose weight or for medical reasons

So it can, and used to only, mean the kind of food you normally eat. ie a bue whale has a diet of plancton.. and as much of it as it can find...

As a fattie/slimie depending on when you ask...

If you want to lose weight, you need two things. Exercise and diet.

Eat well and less calories than you need, and dont overdo the exercise. 2-3lbs a week is great progress. Work slow and it'll come off.

I have now managed to lose 2 and half stone! I think it will stop there to be honest and try and get a bit of definition.
