    Home-grown rule introduced

Quoted from the Sky Sports article:

As of next season clubs will be required to have a squad named of up to 25 players, of which no more than 17 can be over the age of 21 and not home grown," Scudamore said.

"The definition of home grown is trained for three years under the age of 21 by somebody in the English and Welsh professional system.

Players who are aged under 21 are eligible over and above the limit of 25 players per squad.
If anything, clubs will probably have to reduce their number of foreign players down to 17. But the home grown rule is too lax, the big clubs have been buying young foreign teenage talent for ages, they just wait 3 years and they are classed as home grown as opposed to English home grown.

    Re: Home-grown rule introduced

    Its a stupid rule.

All of this came about because some rubbishrubbishrubbishrubbish said the only reason England haven’t won anything in the last 40 years is because we have too many foreign players.

I love the premiership and its because of the foreign players why the English premier league is IMO the greatest in the world.

    gah!

Ice Hockey's English Premier League has a similar rule, which actually goes even further:

    - No more than 4 non-British trained players per team
    - No more than 3 of those non-Brits on the ice at one time
    - ALL players have to be eligible for an EU passport (so no Americans/Canadians at all unless they've previously become applicable for EU passport status )

Not that I think football needs much of a helping hand in getting established in this country, but it gives development of any sport a boost if teams are encouraged to "shop locally".

If you want the best, you go looking around the world, not your local park.

    Re: Home-grown rule introduced

The two clubs with the least homegrown talent are Liverpool and Chlesea

both clubs have 8 'home grown' players. Is any Premiere league club going to be effected at the moment? No.

This was pointed out on another forum. i am sure it contrevines EU employment law. The spanish system of 3 foreign players in a matchday squad I think is a really good idea. I think they have that in France as well.
