    Cardio Question....

    Hey all,
At the moment I train 3/4 times a week mostly using upper body weights / machines. By working out over the last year I've got back up to my fighting weight (around 15.5 stone).

Now I'd like to add some cardio into the workout - my question is, should I add in say 15 mins of cardio every day OR should I dedicate a single work out day to cardio?

    All relevant comments are appreciated.

    Re: Cardio Question....

What fighting sport do you do?

Note, these are totally my own opinion, whilst I have done some training before I have no real basis other than some logic for these suggestions.

I think most fighting sports require a mix of power, strength and endurance. Therefore, your training should reflect this.

If you've neglected cardio for a while, I would dedicate more time to it initially to increase base endurance and then start to mix in as part of your daily training.

    Re: Cardio Question....

Used to do muay thai - by fighting weight I simply mean the weight in which I feel I have plenty of muscle.

Anyway, I've decided to do 15mins of cardio at the start of each session. Get the heart going, then hit the sit-ups and onto which ever muscle group I am working on that day.

    Re: Cardio Question....

ive started putting more cardio into my workouts since december in decent doses.
before i go to work, i just walk around the block where i live and jog in small doses - its doesnt tire you at all but KICK STARTS your metabolism in a big way.

i still go to the gym with my brother 6 days a week and when he's done weight training i finish with cardio on the cross trainer or treadmill, alternating each day - just doing 15 minutes, the best way to work out your cardio routine is to keep up speeds and times so your heart isnt working too hard, if you keep an eye on your heart rate - pushing too hard or 'burning out' on cardio doesnt make you lose weight faster - it simply trains your heart: you just need a steady pace.
obviously if you are NOT looking to lose weight and are more interested in stamina then a faster pace for a smaller time is the trick.
(sorry if it doesnt make alot of sence, its not the easiest for me to explain)
