MTB + flat tire + Creativity

As there are tons on mountain biking people here, Just a random question on what would you do?

You went mountain biking, When your far away from somewhere, you have a puncture, tire burst instantly. What would you do? Assuming you havent got a spare tube or a puncture repair kit or a pump (nor access to any of these iether) what would you do? to avoid walking back?

I had this kinda happen to me not to long back and someone sugested filling the tires up with loads of grass. It pleasant to ride after but it works

    any other creativity?

If you haven't got a spare tube, or at the very least a patch kit, you deserve a long walk home
The grass thing doesn't work either - when you apply the brakes the rim stops but the tyre continues on it's way and off the rim. Not good.

    Agreed.

If you go out without repair tools, then sooner or later you will be walking home. If the ride is only a few miles in the woods behind your house then that might be an acceptable risk. Personally I always ride with a small multi tool in my pocket, because it is smaller than a bunch of keys, but not always with a pump and tube, as that is much bulkier.

If you have a puncture, and you don't have a spare tube or patch kit, then it sometimes possible to fix the leak by tying a knot in the inner tube, though I would expect a bumpy ride.

If you don't have a pump, then you might be able to find a garage or flag down a roadie. It is also possible to ride on the road on just a rim, but only on the road, and it is fairly slow and very bumpy, and you destroy the rim, so I would only do that as a last resort.

Strip the inner tube and tyre from the wheel and hard-core it up with just the the metal exposed. Just hope you don't have expensive wheels when it comes to this, or anyone around to hear the god awful embarrassing racket.

Always carry a mobile phone and get a loved one to pick you up in the 4*4, works every time.

This has been my constant technique for the last 20 years Well, OK, before I got a mobile it was to the nearest payphone and get the parents to collect me, but other wise this is pretty much it

My other fave trick in my teens (when I was regularly biking a couple of hundred miles a week) was to carry a tube of rubber solution and a cigarette lighter - smear the punture with the solution, burn off the alcohol solvent with the lighter, it deposits a thin layer of rubber that should get you a fair few miles, and last a couple of reinflations, too.

I would advise you to put some goop thing which heals the puncture in the tube as they happen.
