    Portable Hard Drive Advice

    Hey

Last week I bought my Girlfriend a new Dell Inspiron 15R Laptop ready for our anniversary at the end of the month and I was looking to pair a decent portable hard drive with it, the idea behind this is so she can back up her files and also that it is small enough for her to take to Uni to do print outs and presentations rather then having to take the Laptop. The laptops HDD is 500GB in size so I'm guessing that I will need something near this size for her to make back-ups to and I would also like to make a master back-up of her Laptops drivers, windows and what ever else to the portable hard drive(the Laptop prompts to do this when its first powered up). Budgets not so much of an issue (obviously within reason) so I will let you guys do what you do best and help advise me

    Thanks a bunch,
    /Rookie

I was looking at getting the 500GB Intenso hard drive for my laptop to back up onto along with my desktop. Seems a resonable price for a slimline external hardrive and its USB powered. Probally worth a look as a starting point.

Thats a lot cheaper then what I had been looking at (The WD My Passport Elite) maybe I need to do some more shopping around lol! Whats the difference between these two drives btw?

    Thanks,

    Re: Portable Hard Drive Advice

Stick with a company that actually makes hard drives, that way you know exactly what you are getting. Western Digital and Seagate would be my two recommendations.

    Re: Portable Hard Drive Advice

you could look at getting an enclosure and hdd seperate... I saw a 640GB samsung drive going for around £50 the other day so i guess a 500gb drive would be cheaper, plus an enclosure for 10-20.
That way you know what hdd your getting and it gives you the option to upgrade the hdd size in the future if needed as well.
